Assylum
Childcare and day care are currently not possible because the help of sponsors is necessary for this.
In 2010, 595 children were born with a serious condition. This number continues to rise over the years. That is why the need for care for these children also continues to increase.
Needs of informal caregivers or parents
It is important to relieve the caregiver in a timely manner.
The informal caregiver bears a great responsibility in the care of a chronically ill child.
They are responsible for education, care, social support, financial support, emotional support…
These tasks are not to be underestimated, and therefore the caregiver needs a break. However, this is often not understood by those around them.
Examples:
- A moment for himself every now and then
- Need for more privacy
- No time for anything else anymore
- Need for social contact
- Need a vacation, time with other family members

Why a respite care home?
When you, as a family, are told that your child has a serious, life-threatening condition, a great deal falls upon you.
It has a severe impact on those around them, family, and loved ones.
This applies to physical, psychological, and social levels.
The illness requires total commitment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The situation affects the child themselves, but also the parents and the entire family. For the brothers and sisters as well.
That is why it is important that parents can take a “break” for a moment. Some attention for themselves and the other members of the family.
That is also the importance of such a respite home: to be able to take over this care for a few days a year. This also helps avoid hospital admissions.
It is also possible to facilitate a transition between the hospital and the home situation in this house. This is called bridging care. Due to their situation, children cannot yet go home, but they can no longer remain in the hospital either.
If necessary, terminal care can also be provided. Experiencing the approaching end in the best possible way. Aftercare for the bereaved is very important in this regard.
